How much have A&E departments changed over the last 70 years?

A&E departments have changed a lot over the last 70 years. In the early days of the NHS they would be run largely by junior doctors, but now a whole range of people from different medical professions are on hand to look after you.

Needing to unexpectedly go to hospital can be a scary experience, but there will always be a member of NHS staff there to help you at every point in your care journey; from your initial assessment to referring you on for follow-up treatment. The NHS’s 70th birthday is the perfect opportunity for us to introduce you to some of them and celebrate their hard, and sometimes unseen, work. There could well be more people involved than you first thought.

We have also produced a number of other videos celebrating the hard work of NHS staff, which you can watch on our YouTube channel.

If you think you’d like to work within the NHS, why not find out about joining the team?
