When did you start in the NHS?
Why did you choose to work in the NHS?
Throughout life my experience of the NHS has always been nothing but positive. Both as a patient myself and having seen loved ones needing the NHS, it has always amazed and inspired me, and made me proud to be British. Having travelled, and done placements in various parts of the world I feel lucky that we have an institution such as the NHS to meet the populations’ healthcare needs. No system is without its flaws and pressures, which I am sure we are all more than aware of. However despite the considerable stresses and strains it is under, the NHS certainly is and hopefully will continue to be a world class healthcare service that is the envy of many across the world.
Describe what you do in 100 words
I see patients at the practice and in their homes to treat common conditions, and refer them into hospital/secondary care when emergency/specialist input is needed. I am involved in the complex management of long term conditions and co-morbidity (the presence of more than one disease or disorder) in the community. As a GP, I am involved in all aspects of healthcare including: health promotion; physical health; mental health; and social care.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I get a unique insight into patients’ lives being a GP. I am privileged to be in such a position of trust and responsibility. The chance to develop long lasting doctor patient relationships, join them through their life journeys and support them where I can is extremely rewarding and exciting.
How would you describe the NHS in one word?
